Advocating for the inclusion and visibility of AAPI history in our nation’s schools
New Jersey has become the second state in the country to adopt a requirement that AAPI history and culture be added to districts' social studies curriculum, for all K-12 students, starting in the 2022‑2023 school year. The bills signed by Gov. Murphy require school districts to incorporate an inclusive range of textbooks and other classroom materials to “portray the cultural and economic diversity of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
The legislation allows local boards of education to pick instructional materials.
